Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has started campaigning for presidential elections in October, with personal appearances, speeches and social media missives . . . over the weekend, Chavez made several speeches, where he called his cancer recovery a miracle and excited supporters with emotional and spiritual rhetoric . . . Chavez also is using the national broadcasting system to ridicule opposition candidate Henrique Capriles Radonski, calling him “a daddy and mommy’s boy” . . . Chavez also instituted a nation-wide system to send “tweets” to every cell phone in Venezuela so even citizens without Twitter accounts will receive his message . . . despite lingering concerns about his health, Chavez retains the support of a large number of Venezuelans . . . Chavez will use all government resources – including financing – to win the election . . . Capriles will face an uphill battle in fighting the overwhelming reach and resources of Chavez.
