United Kingdom/Jordan: Radical Islamist Cleric Will Not Be Deported to Jordan

The United Kingdom will not deport the radical Islamist cleric Abu Qatada to Jordan due to a  . . . the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that the UK could not deport Qatada because he was at risk of additional torture if he returns to Jordan . . . Qatada has been accused of supporting several terrorist groups, including al-Qaeda, and preaching support for jihad and issuing fatwas calling for the killing of non-believers . . . he was also convicted in absentia by the Jordanian government of being involved in plotting two terrorist bombings in Jordan . . . if the decision is not appealed Qatada will be released in three months to live on benefits with his wife and five children, although he will continue to be under round  the clock surveillance. . . the ruling reflects the warped and naive ideology of the ECHR . . . the decision comes alongside the close vote of 4-3 by the ECHR that permits the sentencing of dangerous criminals, such as mass murderers and rapists, to life in prison without parole . . . Qatada will remain a threat until the UK can either deport or imprison him permanently . . . UK Euroskeptics will seize on he ECHR's ruling as another reason for the UK to leave the European Union.
