US Navy Ship Fires on Fishing Boat in Persian Gulf Adding to Tensions

The United States Navy fuel resupply ship USS Rappahannock, while on its way to make a port call, fired on a small approaching boat near the Dubai port of Jebel Ali after attempting to warn off the ship with warning shots and loud speakers that went unheeded . . . one person aboard the small craft was killed and three were injured . . . the small craft was a fishing boat returning to port and was not engaged in any hostile activity, according to press reports . . . the incident is being investigated by US and UAE authorities  . . . oil prices immediately spiked by $1.33 on reports of the incident . . . this incident reflects the high tensions in the Gulf. . . the Iranian Navy is known to use small, fast boats laden with explosives to harass and attack larger ships.
