Syria: Rebels Target Security Forces as Violence Expands Despite UN Monitors

At least three Syrian government security officers were killed in Damascus today by Syrian rebels . . .  one intelligence officer reportedly was shot to death; two others died when a bomb blew up a truck they were travelling in . . . 55 reportedly were killed yesterday across Syria, mostly in Hama, despite the presence of UN observers . . . Syrian troops continue the crackdown and Syrian rebels reportedly are increasing their attacks on military convoys and checkpoints . . . the expansion of violence over the past 2 days despite last weekend’s UN Security resolution bodes very poorly for the prospects of the Annan peace plan.
