Syria: At Least 20 Killed in Air Strike Near Damascus

Syrian activists in Moadamiyeh, a rebel-held town southwest of Damascus, said at least 20 people were killed in an air strike today . . . the Syrian Observatory, a British human rights monitoring group, confirmed 10 people were killed, including at least six children, but said the number is likely to rise . . . yesterday Syrian government forces killed at least 36 people in rebel-controlled areas east of Damascus . . . President Assad is stepping-up efforts against rebels as they make advances on the capital . . . the use of air strikes and heavy artillery against rebels has increased since Assad’s defiant speech earlier this month and after rebels gained momentum by taking over strategic government strong-holds, such as the Taftanaz airport.
