Russia: President Putin to Meet Kofi Annan as Syrian Crisis Rages

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Moscow tomorrow with UN/Arab League Syrian peace envoy Kofi Annan . . . the meeting will center on ways to address the growing bloodshed in Syria, which is now described by the Red Cross as a civil war . . . Russia continues to describe the Annan plan, centered on negotiation between the Syrian government and rebel forces as the only viable option to resolve the Syrian fighting . . . Annan hopes to convince Moscow to drop its stalwart support for Syria and pressure Assad to cooperate with peace talks aimed at a transition . . . Russia seems to be digging in its heels against what it sees as Western efforts to intervene in Syria through the UN.
