Nigeria: Boko Haram Christmas Day Church Bombing Suspect Escapes

Kabiru Sokoto, the alleged mastermind of a Christmas Day church bombing and deputy commander of the radical Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram escaped from the custody of Nigerian police less than 24 hours after being captured . . . the bombing killed 37 people and has led to additional violence between Christians and Muslims . . .Sokoto managed to escape when the five police escorting him to search his apartment were attacked by presumed members of Boko Haram . . . the regional police commissioner had been suspended for "serious negligence" and could face further punishments . . . Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan confirmed that Boko Haram had secret supporters within the government . . . Sokoto’s escape is a significant embarrassment to Nigeria’s government and raises questions about the loyalty of their police forces . . .
