General Carter Ham of the US Africa Command says Islamic militant groups al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), Nigeria’s Boko Haram and Somalia’s al-Shabab are attempting to coordinate efforts . . . Ham says AQIM is probably sharing weapons with, training and helping to fund Boko Haram . . . he also noted that the separatist movement in Northern Mali is providing AQIM with a safe haven . . . coordination among the radical groups will bolster their capabilities and make it even more difficult for regional government’s to counter their activities.
