Iran New Threats Accompany Snub of IAEA Inspectors

Iranian deputy armed forces director Mohammad Hejazi is warning that Iran will not wait to strike those that it perceives are threatening its security . . . this comes on top of previous Iranian threats to close the Strait of Hormuz and a recent decision to halt oil sales to the United Kingdom and France . . . an Iranian oil ministry spokesman said yesterday that Tehran might extend that ban to other European nations . . . Iran also has snubbed for the second time requests from a visiting International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspection team for access to suspect Iranian facilities, including the Parchin military base where research may have been conducted on nuclear warhead designs . . . at the same time, Iran has agreed to renewed nuclear talks with the West but has offered no details . . . Iran’s recent actions will only deepen international concerns about its nuclear program and the lengths to which Tehran will go to protect it . . . Iran is unlikely to launch an unprovoked attack against Israel or the United States but its new warning indicates a deepening desire to deter military action against it.
