India/Israel: New Delhi And Jerusalem To Expand Relations

After a visit by Indian Foreign Minister SM Krishna visited Israel on January 8, the highest ranking Indian official in more than 10 years, Jerusalem and New Delhi pledged to expand bilateral cooperation, especially concerning counterterrorism . . . New Delhi and Jerusalem are celebrating 20 years of diplomatic relations . . . Krishna is also visiting the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, and the UAE . . . bilateral trade between Israel and India was $5.2 billion in 2010-2011 and India is Israel’s sixth-largest trading partner . . . India is slowly becoming more willing to publically embrace Israel . . . the two  nations view this relationship as important because they both face threats from radical Islamist terrorist groups . . . deepening relations are unlikely to alter New Delhi’s friendship with the Palestinian Authority.
