India: Bombing in Hyderabad Leaves 16 Dead

A bombing yesterday in Hyderabad, India left 16 dead . . . new evidence suggests the attack had been planned ahead of time . . . just two days prior to the attack, national intelligence sources had warned that there may be terrorist activity in the area and some other areas around India . . . Hyderabad has a fairly large Muslim community and has been subject to deadly attacks in the past . . . India has been on heightened alert after the execution of Kashmiri militant Mohammed Afzal Guru two weeks ago, accused of a deadly 2001 attack on India’s parliament . . . the attack resembles bombings by the Indian Mujahadeen, which has declared “open war against India” for “killing Muslims in Kashmir” . . . the hanging of Guru has re-ignited simmering anti-India sentiments in Muslim Muslim-dominated Kashmir, and could lead to more violence and protests.
