China sold 20,000 AK-47s and 21,000 pairs of handcuffs to Zimbabwe this week . . . Yunshan pledged Beijing’s support to Mugabe and the ZANU-PF, the ruling party of Zimbabwe . . . the addition of the new munitions and handcuffs raises concerns over the validity of the upcoming elections . . . violence has been used in previous elections as a means to intimidate opposition supporters . . . the sale reflects China’s long-standing practice of selling arms to questionable regimes . . . China has benefitted from Zimbabwe’s large reserves of gold and platinum.
