Austria/Canada: Austria Refuses to Sell Tanks to Canadian Military

Vienna has decided against selling the Canadian military forty 15-year-old Leopard 2A4 tanks on Monday . . . instead the German manufacturer, Krauss-Maffei, will buy the tanks back for almost $525,000, before modernizing and reselling them . . . Austria bought the tanks for almost $1.7 million each in 1996 . . . Vienna is believed to have rejected the deal primarily because the Canadian military is involved in fighting in Afghanistan.
