In an exclusive interview with Lignet, Maj. Gen. Scott Smith, a highly decorated, retired U.S. Army officer and battlefield commander, said U.S. policy on Syria is “adrift” and led by a “politically driven” president.
Scott Smith has had an exceptionally distinguished military career that took him from the long gray line at West Point to service as a field commander in Vietnam, ultimately achieving the rank of major general and serving in a senior civilian post at the Department of Defense. Smith has been awarded a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart and other service medals for valor. Smith’s understanding of the face of war is reflected in his commentary on the looming prospect of a U.S. attack on Syria.
